4S Receives an Email from the City of Surrey

Earth-Keepers

On Nov. 3, 4S went on a mushroom walk to Hemlock Park. In the park, we came upon a huge pile of garbage. We were picking up garbage along the way but could not manage this large amount (see picture). We decided to write a letter to the City of Surrey. Upon returning to the classroom, one of our students began writing and collected the signatures of the class. Ms. Stegeman added a picture and map and sent it off.

We were happy to receive an email from the City of Surrey today. Here’s what it said:

To the grade 4 class at Surrey Christian School: (it listed all our names)

Thank you for reporting the garbage pile that was illegally dumped in Hemlock Park. We have sent a professional work crew to go and clean up that mess. We are disappointed when some people break bylaws and disrespect protected parks by dumping garbage, but we greatly appreciate it when responsible members of our community (like yourselves) let us know about it so we can clean it up.

Thank you again for caring about our parks and protected natural areas.
